Types of Opportunities with CCCI
California-China Climate Institute (CCCI) offers various opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, visiting scholars and professionals to engage in our work accelerating climate solutions in California and China. Opportunities address a range of research and policy areas, and different levels of commitment. Below is a summary of some of the types of positions possible. Opportunities will be posted here as they become available.
Graduate Research for Credit. For graduate student researchers working towards a PhD, Master’s degree or Law degree at UC Berkeley, with an interest in CCCI research projects. Positions can focus on a specific research or policy project and other tasks as they arise. Graduate students can receive credit for their work.
Undergraduate Researcher (UR). Undergraduate Researcher positions are for undergraduate students at UC Berkeley working on a project under the supervision of a faculty or a staff member. This could be for research or policy projects. Positions can be taken for course credit or work-study.
Volunteers. CCCI offers volunteer opportunities for students and/or professionals outside of the GSR or UR, who are interested in CCCI and willing to participate in other projects at the Institute. Volunteers are unpaid positions and course credit is not provided.
Visiting Scholars. The Berkeley Law Visiting Scholar Program is a 6 month or 1 year limited term appointment, aimed at supporting mid-career professionals in applied climate policy independent research and exchanges. It aims to facilitate research and policy engagement on various climate themes related to international climate policy and subnational climate leadership. Visiting Scholars will be expected to conduct independent research during their time in residence in Berkeley, California, contributing policy memos, blogs, reflection papers, and other project outcomes during their time visiting the University of California. Visiting Scholars must have their own source of funding for the duration of their stay with CCCI, and must be in-residence in Berkeley, CA. Learn more here about the Visiting Scholars program at Berkeley Law and its requirements. Applicants must have earned a P.h.D, more than 5 years ago (or the terminal degree in their field). The applicant must also have a full-time position at another institution before applying for the visiting scholar position. Potential matches will be directed through the Berkeley Law School’s Visiting Scholar Program, and must meet all program application deadlines and qualifications. The Berkeley Law Visiting Scholars Program determines admission or reappointment decisions. Affiliated Researchers. Affiliated researchers are scholars or technical experts who work with CCCI as co-leaders on specific research and/or policy projects. Research affiliates are employees of other institutions but work collaboratively with CCCI faculty affiliates or staff members on a temporary basis ranging from six months to one year. Compensation is provided for affiliated researchers.
